Frequently Asked Questions About Our Online Programs
Do online students learn the same skills as on-campus students?
Escoffier’s online programs are based on the similar curricula as our on-campus programs, giving you the opportunity to receive the same core training that you would on-campus from the comfort and convenience of your own home. Through a blend of video tutorials, interactive assessments, and videos from professional Chef Instructors, you can develop both theoretical knowledge and hands-on culinary skills in preparation for the next chapter of your culinary career.
Also, just like on-campus students, your program will include at least one required in-person externship—a chance to put your skills in practice in a real culinary or hospitality setting and to build experience and industry connections.
How can Chef Instructors evaluate my food without tasting it?
Chef Instructors provide personalized feedback to online students based on student-submitted pictures.
While preparing dishes at home, you are directed to document your process and finished dishes with photos, which you will later submit to your Chef Instructors.
Chef Instructors then review your submission and offer individual feedback. These instructors are seasoned culinary professionals, and are capable of evaluating dishes based on visual appearance and description alone!
Will Escoffier provide culinary supplies?
Upon enrollment, students receive a standard toolkit that includes knives, a digital scale, and other culinary tools; the exact content may be tailored to your specific program. Students may also receive an official chef’s uniform with the Escoffier logo. These resources provide many of the essentials that can help you begin a professional culinary education from home!
You will be responsible for purchasing ingredients throughout your program, and you may need to supplement your kit with additional kitchen items as needed for your assignments.
What kind of internet or tech setup do I need?
Escoffier’s online programs require the following technical resources:
- Desktop or laptop computer
- Broadband high-speed internet
- Access to a smartphone, tablet, or other device with the ability to take photos
- Google Chrome browser (recommended)
If you do not already have a desktop or laptop, you may choose to have a laptop mailed to you for an additional $250 Technology Fee.
The online programs are designed to be accessible to almost everyone, regardless of their technical expertise. You can receive technical support by calling our support team at (877) 224-8576 or emailing [email protected].
We want to make sure that you have a positive experience with our online programs. If you have any questions or problems, please don’t hesitate to contact our support team. We’re here to help!
Can I access coursework from a phone or tablet?
A smartphone or tablet can be used to take pictures of your work throughout your program, and you can also use these devices to access technique videos, student discussion boards, and more. However, a desktop or laptop computer is required for Escoffier’s online programs.
If you do not already have a desktop or laptop, you may choose to have a laptop mailed to you for an additional $250 Technology Fee.
What platforms or tools will I use for class?
You can access online courses and other academic resources along with student groups, student services, financial aid, student records, workshops, events, and communities through our Student Portal and the ECampus online portal.
You can use these technical resources alongside your hands-on culinary equipment—your standard toolkit along with your own kitchen appliances and gear—to execute assignments, develop your skills, and work toward earning your culinary credential!
How does Escoffier support job search assistance after graduation?
Both during and after your program, you will have access to Escoffier’s Career Services department which can assist you with your transition from student to professional.
Escoffier Career Services can help you to write your resume, prepare for interviews, and connect with employers.
